Tech in math class: what is it? and why bother?

Technology in math is anything used to help students understand a concept. We should bother because we have a responsibility to teach all types of learners. We need technology to ensure all modalities are addressed and all students are successful.

  1. Anything? While I totally agree with you about addressing all modalities of learners. I think I'd like some clarification on your "anything used to help students understand a concept". Did you mean to justify technology in the math class as a support for developing conceptual understanding? Is it a necessary support? What about the advances in math ed tech? Are they any different in what they actually achieve versus those available, say just 5 years ago? Would it be "irresponsible" to ignore these advances or acceptable? Why?
